If cuisine is the thread that connects the past and the present, then space is the bridge that fully immerses diners in that journey. At Viên, architecture is not only a beautiful backdrop but also an integral part of Vietnamese identity, blending with dishes that embody the essence of Vietnamese culinary excellence.
Every brick, roof tile, and light in the space tells the story of a meaningful fusion between East and West. The familiar feeling evoked by the terracotta walls – a material that recalls the old houses in the ancient streets of Hanoi, where the traces of time remain on each rustic brick, simple yet sturdy. But instead of preserving its old-fashioned appearance, the terracotta walls at Viên are intentionally arranged, combined with natural light and minimalist interiors, creating a warm, elegant space that carries both traditional charm and a hint of refined contemporary style.
The roof tiles – a symbol of the old northern houses – are also creatively stylized. Two types of tiles are used: triangular arrow-shaped tiles that appear on window frames, evoking the image of low eaves in the old quarter, and rectangular tiles that highlight the bar area – where diners can enjoy a glass of wine or a carefully crafted cocktail.
Viên believes that architecture is the catalyst for an elevated gastronomic experience. When stepping through the door of Viên, diners not only savor the food but also immerse themselves in a space where architecture, light, scent, and flavor blend together to create a symphony that satisfies all the senses.
